Like, losing your mind & not ever finding it back? I've seen/witnessed this sort of thing with my father, but it wasn't psychedelics. He has permanent methamphetamine induced psychosis. But years ago, I've always heard to be careful with Acid bc it could happen. But I really don't see it possible, at least not with myself. I've seen my friend wig out so hard on shrooms I was scared my friend wasn't gonna come back, but he woke up next morning normal as ever. He's done them several times since then & he can handle his trips now. & He wants to try Acid but he's worried he may lose his mind. SO! Any & all input that you guys may have would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! Mush love!

From my understanding of biology and medicine what I can say is, this phenomenon occurs, but it is misunderstood. From what I can tell, the people who "don't come back" as you say, are individuals who have underlying pre-existing mental illnesses that may be dormant and the drugs act as a catalyst that activates and accelerates the onset of their mental illness. It isn't the drug permanently messing them up, rather, it is just a trigger that exposes and accelerates problems they would eventually have anyways.

I have to make sure I take my medication (a major tranquilizer class medication), I have to watch my set and setting closely, and do all the harm reduction recommendations that I can do. Ironically one of the harm reduction recommendations is to avoid psychedelics if you have schizophrenia, but I feel if I use them safely and responsibly, then I can get some very helpful benefits from psychedelics without the psychosis problems that I used to fall into when I was abusing psychedelics and not taking care of my schizophrenia.
I know someone who never became himself ever after mixing too much drgs that contained acid.. that guy is became dumb as he hit the flowers on the street bc he thinks he able to push it into weed, same with coke etc
Otto_didactic, just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Also, schizophrenia is the only mental disease to present in every culture that's ever existed at about the same rate of occurrence.

Of course there are underlying psychological issues. That's basically what we are as people, walking psychologies.
