Did a masters mix of 1lb wood pellets to 1lb soy hull pellets. I originally attempted to do a sterilized fruiting block with my PC fitting in 4 5lb fruiting blocks from a tutorial I followed. Long story short I was having issues compared to grain bags. I figured it was something to deal with the density, once I figured out how to fit all 4 bags and filling it up with enough water where it covers the 4 bottom bags my induction cooker wasn’t really able to get the PC hot enough to maintain a proper 15 PSI, I find it strange cause I was able to fit 20lb of grain bags in the PC and cover the top of the Pc with my trivet vs a plate and was able to cook all the bags perfectly. My conclusion is the fruiting blocks are far more dense that you got to take all of the proper precautions, even though I followed it with the density of the substrates I would of had to do it on the stove top which unfortunately doesn’t work out due to how it’s setup hence why I use my induction cooker. Even though I was disappointed I revisited pasteurized fruiting blocks tek but with my own version of it. Still did 1lb of hardwood fuel pellet to a 1lb of soy hull pellets to 5.5cups of boiling hot water from my electric kettle, all I did was roll the top of the bag over and with my heat resistant gloves give it a good shake. After I got done shaking the bags I folded the flap over and let it cooled. As for inoculation I did half a jar per bag and as you can see the results are perfect! The Soy Hulls will cost you the most, but the hardwood fuel pellets themselves are very affordable from Walmart. Being space friendly and low tek this allows other mycologist use to do pasteurized teks to cross over and do the same with the gourmets. This experiment is to prove that if you can’t get one method figured out you can rely on this one and still get great results! Can’t wait to see these fruit and bring me some yummy fruit!

View MoreHow’s it going fam?! Miss you all, just been recovering from being ill and had to work through it all on one rough day, fortunately was able to take a sick day to recover but the next few days recovery wise has been rough. However, I have been resting and focusing on less intensive activities. Just got done sitting some shake I had frozen and wow! Got lots of hot jar hash to make. As for my Pink Oyster mycelium it has aggressively taken it all over. Going to be making fruiting blocks tomorrow and looking forward to spawning this out! I am curious on what I can cook with fresh pink oyster.

I got a name for this new strain but won’t announce it until I grow it out, save the samples and of course test run it to make sure it fully stabilized!

Also testing out these Cayenne Pepper seeds for my first pepper grow. Same technique for gardening nothing changes. Also that banana water I have from peels has worked tremendously well on all plants! My compost is also getting close to be long ready that I won’t have to buy rabbit manure anytime soon. I’m excited cause it’s mycoinfused from all of the used substrate I threw in there. Plants will love it!

I have pink oyster ready to go with me putting lions mane on water agar to test the LC viability, happy to say it going well and that transfer to nutrient plate will be aggressive! The chapter in my Mycology journey right now is getting comfortable with mastering everything about gourmet cultivation and achieving the goal of making LCs. Also wanting to demonstrate that all of the teks previously learned when doing only actives carries over to gourmets with the only need to change the substrate and adapting to different growing conditions. Also having that spark to learning something new has made me happy to cultivate again, plus I don’t have to hide this project at all if I got family visiting, no matter how many times I can agree on certain things, sadly this isn’t one of those battles I can win, can never hear the end of it and the accusation of being called a druggie when I just love cultivating fungi in general. But what I can do is cultivate primarily gourmets and hide 2-4 bags of actives in the event of a visit lol

Fortunately I had some for at least 10 jars. Enough for me to do No Soak No Simmer Oat tek and my favorite liquid inoculate tek! My pink oyster is dying to eat! Next day off I get I’ll be investing the whole day to do Oat bags, found an easy tutorial but I want to get it down so I can reteach it. I think part of my burnout and not being able to cultivate much was having a hard time finding reason since I have a big actives pile lol, I love cultivating and want to keep at it! But I need to have the ability to consume everything I work on regularly and more importantly having a reason since I’ll keep running out of fresh gourmets to cook with!
Mycology has always been my favorite science and I’m honestly sad my community college doesn’t offer that science, however, I’m looking into taking a biology class so I can at least pair it up with what I know! I’m almost done with school, 2 classes left to complete and I graduate! To all of those reminding me to finish what I started thank you all for being that positive support! Even though I’m a Chef that gets paid well and doing better off than most university grads with a bachelors, I still acknowledge the importance of just having an Associates alone. It shows I committed to my education and that I can work in the professional world no problem, with the job I have I can easily move up into management quick! Being a Chef that runs two departments at once has already put a step into climbing my way up! The best part of it all, my hard work reflects on all of the happy and well fed Marines! Lastly I’m thankful for my Jiu-Jitsu journey keeping me occupied that I don’t have to stare at projects lol after getting adjusted it will feels good to know I have fully achieved my goal of balance.

Excited to smoke more of my homegrown! All done with miracle grow potting soil, reusable fabric shopping bags and rabbit manure with grass clippings. Experimented with gopher mound dirt but didn’t work well with another project. All I have to say is I love learning plants too!

I got a frame ordered for it so I can hang it up in my space or wherever my lab ends up at! Thankful to those who have been a blessing in my life. Also my pink oyster culture is ready to be sent to grain. Going to do No Soak No Simmer jar tek with the bag of oats I haven’t opened yet! My active projects are also doing incredibly well, one step at a time with getting into the flow of mycology again.

Starting up again so I can have something to look forward to growing when I’m busy. Being occupied and having to schedule things prevents me from having to peek at projects lol either way it’s good to have my flow back and being myself again! I was able to transfer everything fast and efficiently. Looking forward to seeing what will come out of this new season! Also got a regular weekly dosing schedule now that I have figured out how to activate my flow state at anytime without the need of the mushrooms, basically when I’m at work I’m locked in, when I’m at the gym getting scraps in with my teammates locked in, lifting weights in the garage all locked in! It’s just nice to medicate on a day off and get some cleaning done! Next project germinating some more seed including my peppers! Spring has come early in SoCal and ready to have a better crop!
