Anyone added apple or pear wood to outdoor mushroom beds? The google says they are both considered hardwood, but in having trouble finding specific references to their use in forums or books..

I thought we are supposed to avoid orchards I read it in one of my mycology books. I'll see if I can find it.

In the growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms by Paul Stamets it say you can use fruit trees but they are a more dense wood that requires a longer gestation period. And basically it would take longer to colonize and fruit compared to alder, cottonwood, poplar, willow, or aspen. Hope that helps. Mus... View More

Yo thanks ZachariahTheBold. I’m using bags of Kirkland bbq hardwood pellets for the bulk of my substrate, but have read it’s good to have materials of different sizes mixed together in your substrates, so it’s not just a super dense bed of sawdust.

Have you looked into Lions Mane or its extract for nerve damage? It is shown to grow new nerves and neurons

I think those are like 2 months worth if you take one scoop a day.

Heck yes man. I appreciate the push in the right direction. Sometimes I’m too self sufficient and get tunnel vision

I had this stuff for a long time before I began taking it regularly. I definitely see improvement though for sure. It makes me smarter too!

Sweet. I’m stoked for it to show up. Definitely wouldn’t hurt me to be a little smarter either.

Read that smoker pellets are a good substrate for beds of wood loving varieties of mushrooms. Anyone have experience using them?

I have TONS of Brazilian hardwood decking scraps from my business. If I cut them into say 1”x1” pieces would they be good to add to the pellets in my beds ZachariahTheBold and long_distance_runner and Mushinist? Or should I stick to domestic hardwood species?

I have no doubt about the oneness of the universe sweetheart. I am the good, the bad and the ugly. The father, the son and the holy spirit, the saints and the Demiurge... The only thing that can exist outside of the whole (or the almighty creator) is the ignorance of this wholeness. All these "entit... View More
