You can add lye and water first to basify it. Then yes naptha would pull out any left over Dimitri from the basified leftovers.

What was the weight you started with? Should give you an idea of how much lye to use. You may end up with nothing or you may end up pleasantly surprised.

That picture is quite unclear. The swab will be light/dark blue if the pigment in their apes were intense then that can effect the color as well- seemingly black even.
