Most of these "strain" names were in... View MoreOne interesting side note ..... since so many mentioned "strains" with corresponding colors. There are only but a very few "farms" in the world where 80% (down from maybe 95% just a few years ago) of the entire kratom supply within the open market comes from. Most of these "strain" names were invented by middlemen to maximize profits through "branding" and trying to satisfy a growing demand for variety. Many times these slightly differing colors of so called "strains" are harvested from the very same trees ..... sometimes at the same time .... because they are the same. Its apparently very hard to quantify effects just through the alkaloid makeup and amounts of known actives ..... Much like with cannabis, where the effects are highly influenced by terpenes and a miriad of other alkaloids interacting..., the varying effects often possible with kratom (stimulating, sedating, pain relieving etc) are likely more due to the result of a complex mixture of alkaloids and not primarly due to just the percentages of known active alkaloids present. This doesn't mean that the differences in affect are imagined ...... Although thats probably not so uncommon either. The color differences are largely due to the different curing methods employed. I think its the lighter colored ones that are open air cured or flash cured (likely preserving a unique set of alkaloids) ..... with the darker colors getting some type of extended fermentation type cure (possibly preserving a different alkaloid priority)..... Hey, Im far from an expert upon anything, let alone the farming, harvesting and curing of leaves from a tropical tree on the other side of the globe ....... But if in not entirely correct here .... Im not far off either. What does influence alkaloid content just as much, if not much more, is the timing of harvest. Apparently these trees alkaloid content will change and vary throught the year quite substantially and reliably. Seasons there are hella different than more temperate zones and usually resemble more of a wet/dry season. Rumor was that late summer/early fall was when alkaloid contents peaked ..... but I have no reliable resource to back that claim up. It doesn't contradict the experiences of myself and others fwiw. The reality is we know very little about this tree, nor its recent mass production geared up to satisfy these huge demands now coming from the west.(instigated no doubt by the opioid crisis) and science knows even less concerning the alkaloids and effects. We do know its been successfully used by the indigenous peoples for likely thousands of years with no obvious, mass issues of the type that would cause concern. Thats about the extent of my understanding. I pay more attention to color and smell than Ido to some type of silly name when choosing which kratom is appropriate ..... again, much the same as i do with cannabis. Theres a ton of get rich quicksters out there hawking kratom now through renaming and branding ..... If you do decide to buy some .....never pay a premium price soley due to some nonesense naming strategy of marketing .... and only purchase from well vetted and reliable vendors. Top grade kratom from reliable sources whom actually test every incoming batch of product for both alkaloid content as well as for contamination with nasties like salmonella..... commonly sell all colors by the kilo for under $100 per Any relationship lacking respect is doomed for failure .... often immediately after a nasty trainwreck. Ones relationship with plants, molecules, derivatives etc etc are no different. Someone mentioned that the key to a heathy relationship with kratom is respect ... and I agree with that 1000% No, I don’t give out vendor recommendations as I dont feel its appropriate, nor do I think its permitted here ..... just in case anyone was going to ask! Lol
