View More1st thing I would personally do is this ...... Isolate those clones and treat them for mites even if you see none. It will only get harder to do the bigger they get, so your window for easy propholactic treatment is when they are small ...... personally, I'm a big proponent of only using organic methods...... but to each his own. If its a good nursery, they very likely already have a solid IPM (integrated pest management) program schedule they follow religiously. The fact is that even the best of nurseries have an enormous amount of plants coming and going constantly, so dealing with pests as tiny as spider (or God forbid russerts) mites are a common occurrence and some egg masses or even mites are bound to slip through even the most dedicated, capable and vigilant hands. As the old saying goes ..... An ounce of IPM is worth a kilo bottle of mite killer sauce! What I use is a rotation of spinosad (capt Jacks bug killer - but careful using this stuff outdoors as its deadly to an already threatened bee population .... NEVER spray on ornamental pollen producing flowers outdoors!!), heavily diluted essential oils from plants such as those from the mint family (lemon balm, various mints like spearmint/common mint, catnip etc etc etc), rosemary and whatever other herbs I have growing or handy like thyme heavily diluted with h2o with a dash of dr bronners soap added to act as a surfactant (breaks the water tension force allowing the plants stoma to absorb) and last but not least .... neem oil. Basically, I rotate through these every 2 or 3 days (just under mites life cycle duration) using only one at a time ..... never altogether at the same time ...... and would do so for at least a few weeks before I felt safe enough to move them into my grow area. Do keep in mind that I'm more indoor or greenhouse than an outdoor grower ...... But even when growing outdoors, having a solid IPM schedule using prophylactic treatment for pests is a very, VERY wise idea ..... many have dismissed such necessities at first only to have it bite them in the ass much later when plants are huge and therefore much more difficult to treat effectively. When I do grow in the open outdoors, at bare minimum (and even on my past guerilla grows), I would generously add neem meal and/or karanja meal to my soils ...... neither of these should be underestimated in their abilities to repel pests. That about covers what I would immediately do during the first few weeks after acquiring them.
