Spores to agar. Anyone know what the issue is? Both my spore syringes did this same thing.

Ok that’s good to know, so we rubbed the solution around with the back of the scalpel. We were just wondering what the black stuff could be? Same black thing happened on different strains.

That black stuff definitely looks like some mold spores got onto the plate. They are microscopic so it is hard to tell until your plate is infected. I always toss a bad plate and simply do a new transfer over.

One way to avoid standing water is to rotate and tilt the plate after inoculation to spread the liquid, in hopes of quicker evaporation.
