Why do some mushroom spawn jars just stop colonizing? I let it grow to about 40% and then bust it up and evenly distripute the grain. It then starts colonizing again but sometimes stops at about 70-80%. Has anyone an explanation or could help me out?✌????

Usually moisture or theres something the myc doesnt wanna roll over. Could also just be metabolites if its the very bottom of the jar thats not colonizing. I mitigate it by laying my jars down on their sides and rotate every few days or so.

Oh and for your additions. Try adding a tablespoon of light corn syrup. And azomite alongside the gypsum helps. I've personally been experimenting with Peptone lately. Terence Mckenna swore by it. Will post results when the time comes.

Bacteria contamination is often the culprit when experiencing such phenomena..... And the bacterium can gain a foothold due to overly wet conditions and/or due to lack of FAE if using very large jars with the gas exchange filter in the lid.
Sometimes it happens even under the best of conditions and... View More

I don't believe that myecelium is going to leave nutrient dense grain uncolonized unless there is a competitor or possibly stalled due to inadequate gas exchange. No reason for additional nutrients, properly hydrated grain and a clean culture is all that is needed.
