Stove top sterilization/ No PC!!!
I have a 99.9% success rate, put it like this out of the past 50 jars ive done only had 2 contaminated.
Easy, find pot that can fit jars.
(My pot fits 5- 1 pint jars)
Place substrate to be sterilized in jars, then place foil over lids and snug up foil to bottom of lid. Before placing jars in pot while foil over lid slightly loosen lid about a 1/4 turn. Foil ensures water does not slosh up onto lid and get inside..
Fill with water in pot half way and bring to a boil, then place jars into boiling water make sure water is atleast half way to level of jar. Now not every oven is the same with temp range but I turn my control up to 7, not a rapid boil but a steady simmer boil, then place lid on. Lid should ting here and there if it it really banging around lower temp to where it tings here and there. Boil for 90 mins. Check on water level around 40-45 mins you will most definetly need to add water due to water level dropping from evaporation. I usually fill about a 1 pint jars worth back into pot, and MAKE SURE YOU USE WARM OR HOT WATER, NO COLD!!! Your jar bottoms will crack by pouring cold water into hot with hot jars!!!
Now put lid back on wait about 15 mins or till you can hear water boiling again before timing it again. Should have another 50 mins to sterilize. Your total time which should be a rough estimate of 105-110 mins cause the refill time to get back up to boiling. Once youve reached 90 mins, turn off stove, let jars sit in pot for 30 mins then remove lid of pot and immediately tighten all lids of jars and remove foil. Place in a clean area for 24hrs or until you want to inoculate them.
I wait about 1 hr and inoculate jars if you like. I do this with the oven which ive been doing for over 25 yrs with no problem see next oven inoculation. Enjoy what may work for me may not work for you but this always works for me, so keep mushing forward!!!
