I'm sure most ... View MoreDoes anyone else here realize the striking similarities between DMT and Methamphetamine? These substances hardly ever find themselves discussed in the same context or even conversation. I'm sure most members of this group are already well aware that almost all psychoactive drugs are either built on the phenethylamine or tryptamine structure. Tryptamines other than the neurotransmitters like serotonin are generally all psychedelics. The phenethylamine based drugs have a wider range of effect. From mescaline to MDMA to amphetamines they all are substitutions of the phenethylamine structure. These are all things I learned slowly over many years. Only recently though did I realize that DMT and Meth are the exact structural parallels of each other within their molecular family. DMT is obviously Dimethyltryptamine, but meth is pretty much always referred to as Methamphetamine as it belongs to the amphetamine group. Amphetamine is just a word for a small group of phenethylamine drugs. If you wanted to call meth by its true name with respect to its parent molecule the correct name is Dimethylphenethylamine. If you look at the structures side by side they are exactly that too, two methyl groups (-CH3) attached to a proper tryptamine molecule or a proper phenethylamine molecule respectively. As much as I have looked since then I cannot find a single mention of this fact anywhere. I think it is mindblowing, especially when you consider that serotonin (tryptamine) and dopamine (phenethylamine) basically control the brain and your perception of reality and they share the same parallel structural relationship. Especially since pure phenethylamine and tryptamine molecules are found endogenously just like DMT is. I think this means there probably is endogenous methamphetamine as well, in however small quantities it may exist, it makes sense. Methylization is an important process in the body as well. Has anyone else ever noticed this or heard/read someone else talking about it? What are your thoughts?

Without research I can't say Definitively, but n- and N- are descriptions of the bond and shapes that the molecule has, I'm not 100% on the exact meaning though.
