View Moreoh my goooosssshhhh that reply was so thorough and full of love! thank you Hailey Nicole, every so often an opportunity to make a decision comes along and instead of focusing on my two or three options, i decide to tear a hole in my brain and spill out all the possibilities that are even remotely related. plus every time i take a class, i get intensely passionate about the subject matter, this makes focusing on the end goal hard. i have decided to switch from nursing/midwifery to chemistry, although i only took an intro healthcare career chem class so i don't know if i'm as good at it as i think i am but i definitely love it, understanding it was like breathing and i was always asking questions (great professor, too...i'll have to ask her about all this). already talked to our career counselor but that was before i decided to go balls out and was still holding back mentioning psychedelics to anyone outside my family because i didn't want to be considered "that chick" if'n ya know what i'm sayin' (now i don't care because, although i need to be strategic about it, i plan to join the ranks of professionals defending the science behind it aka putting a more culturally-accepted face on psychs or entheogens) and the world of chemistry jobs was all new products and new medicines, stuff i'm not too thrilled with because i don't know of any companies i'm a fan of that make stuff that aren't killing the environment or the human race. right now i'm kinda settled on the neuroscience/psychopharmacology area because i'm super against current antidepressants (personal experience with them, would not recommend, although i know they help a lot of people because they are currently the best that we have besides psychs) and i want to be involved in the science behind psychopharmacological reform, i think. i need to further research careers (and talk to the counselor again) to see if chemistry would even work for these things, but i also need to just take the chemistry classes to see if i can hold my own. what exactly do you mean by getting involved in the community? i am intrigued.

I can keep taking classes, but for what? Theres no point eventually if I don't choose a path and I am coming up very quickly on that deadline lol. Oh and by the way even if you are "that chick" flaunt that shit girl lol own it!! Who cares what they think!? BE THAT CHICK! I think its a great idea to talk to that professor you had and see what they think. Just be totally honest (thats what I did), I think even if people dont 100% agree with psychedelics they are probably still aware they are making a come back right now in medicine and may be able to offer help or point you in the right direction! Some professors I emailed never replied, but i emailed probably over 100 from colleges all over the country, not just in my own state. I did get a small handful of replies and great guidance.

I will say you probably do need some kind of chemistry background (because I have to do the same even though I hate it lol) Of course double check with your counselor so that its right for YOU, but im putting a 97% positive-ish that you will haha. I actually had the same thought process that is why I too chose psychedelic neuroscience! (twins again!) I also have had bad experiences with my meds and want to change that for other people. But my biggest issue is wouldnt that be psychiatry? Prescribing meds and helping people with mental health issues? That is my big question and fuck pile, bc holy shit psychiatry is like WOW lol

Getting involved in the community! I attend a local psychedelic group and we have bigger conferences on the other side of my state (I have yet to go unfortunately because of work/ school times) but it could be anything that also helps spread awareness for psychedelics. Our local meetings here are at a kava cafe or any public place we can have a little group at for an hour or so, we finished a zoom meeting this past weekend and are trying to start our own decriminalize nature campaign! So i told them I want to help whether its in the politics, paperwork, advertising i dont care I just want to be hands on. Mush love girl we got this! You got me super excited with you haha

View MoreHailey Nicole the struggle is real, and it's a huuuge decision (although i believe in planned happenstance and if another opportunity comes up along the way that is better but requires me to alter my course, i shall gladly do it). i've never been great with networking (aside from getting all my teachers to remember me because i'm persistent with my questions) but now is a good time to start i think because everyone is at home answering emails anyways. that's a great idea about emailing professors at other colleges, did you contact people specifically researching psychedelics or just in the related sciences? i'm set for chemistry as a major and can choose a specific branch of chem later if i need to (i think), i just don't know if it'll be neurochem or what, and if i'll have to keep taking anatomy and other such classes, but i can figure it out. yeah i don't know what i'd do if my choices let me to psychiatry because even though it's completely involved with psych research, i just couldn't prescribe those meds, everything in my being screams against it. i've also thought about teaching in addition to research since i enjoy education and public speaking, and i've been considering psychology and sociology because i'm interested not only in these drugs as treatment but in what our culture would need to do to healthily accept them into our medicinal practices, because we all know what happened last time. but there my brain goes again, running circles in quasi-quarantine. i need. to narrow. this. shit. down. so anyways, chemistry and all that. and just a few days ago i looked up all the community psychedelic advocacy groups in my area because i saw someone post about it (i can't remember if it was you or someone else) and i added myself to their mailing lists, but i don't know if i'll get looked over because of everything that is going on. i suppose i could email them directly if i don't get an answer. i feel the same way about being hands on and useful, i don't care what i have to do, i may not have a degree or many skills but i have some skills and i have all this energy and motivation and determination and want it to be put to good use! hooray excitement! this this is what i live for, the possibility that these chemicals (
