@kriss Kringle, some people think it helps keep contams from falling on to the agar or that it helps keep moisture from pooling on the agar. It is to keep the moisture off of the agar And the mycelium as it grows. If you ever done any heavy lab work with petri dishes you know that water causes contaminants to grow on the agar.
