But typically when I lose something to mold after colonization, it gets its foothold from high moisture content, so fanning may actilly help prevent that for me.

Either way honestly. Both will work, just will end up slightly different care steps.
I'd say stick with what you made and try it out. If you dont like it, you can always add more holes later.
