I shot a film SLR for years and then got my first digital SLR like 20+ yrs ago when they were not so common and outrageously expensive. Once I caught the pixel bug, I even purchased a pro Nikon digital film/slide scanner so I could digitize all my old film negatives/slides too. I ended up getting heavily involved with digital processing and had a dedicated image processing computer/workstation built. I was pretty proficient in Adobe Photoshop too ..... Up until like Photoshop version 4 or 5 (that should tell you how long ago this was!). The biggest difference between film/digital equipment is this ....... Glass holds its value extremely well but digital slr camera bodies are like computers and other digital electronics...... Almost the second you purchase one, they are worth maybe 1/10th of what you paid as newer/faster/better models come out every month. SLR Glass/Lenses however, hold their value exceptionally well ...... I shot Canon and had quite a few pro "L" series lenses, some of which i used for over 10 yrs ...... Then when I decided I no longer have the time to devote to such things, I sold much of my pro Glass off .... And was amazed that they held their value so well being everything today is designed to go "obsolete" so quickly. Like I said, used these lenses for over a decade and literally sold them for nearly what I paid for them brand new! It ended up being like I "rented" myself lenses worth many thousands of $ for 10 years for like $50 -$100!! My camera bodies on the other hand were not nearly as old, but were nearly worthless as they were 2 or 3 versions back from the newest/latest/greatest models. Once my kids grew up and i no longer shot their sports teams or plays etc and no longer traveled as much hunting and photographing reptiles ....... The whole digital processing thing became more of a chore and less enjoyable as it just ate up alot of my valuable time. It's still an interesting art form and I'm absolutely blown away by the work of folks today and how its no longer such a chore learning complicated software due to the advancement of technology ....... A kid today can literally do photo editing on his phone and produce astonishing results very quickly .......That same task a 10 yr old did on his phone in mere minutes, would of taken me many hours to do on Photoshop back then.
