Casing will also increase your yield in my experience. Ive had all kinds of insane mutants with peens. I always pick the blobs and mutants early and let my myc use its energy on the good looking fruits. Blobs and mutants get powderized for microdoses around here.

how exactly would you do a casing layer? do you wait till the substrate is fully colonized or do you just put it on top right after you do your grain and substrate mix?

I wait untill colonized, add .5 inch of casing, in a few days myc will poke through, when its about 70% visible myc ill add another .5 inch of casing.
